I’ve found my new favorite restaurant – Local 127 in downtown Cincinnati. A few weeks back we happened to stumble into the newly opened restaurant and wow what a find.

The Cincinnati Business Journal reported that the Steven Geddes, who has worked at Aureole in Las Vegas and with Wolfgang Puck, serves as the chef. The front of the house guy is Craig Nuncio and is experienced at making guests into friends.

The restaurant’s mission is so focus on using local ingredients to the fullest and to make the experience one based on gastronomy rather than just eating out. In my opinion, they succeeded on all fronts.

The chef made his way to our table not once, but two or three times to check on our experience. The front of the house dude, came by regularly to be sure we were having an enjoyable experience.

Our server was a little green and a number of questions yielded less than flattering results – but the visits by the chef and co. more than made up for any shortcomings by the server.

In an unusual twist, the menu listed the names of the companies that supplies the ingredients for the restaurant. How’s that for transparency.

At the bar, a conversation was taking place about ham auctions and $1,500 hams. Where else are you going to hear a conversation like that in the tri-state area?

Also, be sure to checkout their great selections of bourbon. One of the best I’ve run across on the north side of the Ohio River!

If you’re a foodie looking for a great experience, I highly recommend Local 127.

While shopping a local thrift store, I ran across a copy of a 1950s version of what to do with cheese titled – “The Cheese Cookbook.”

This author signed edition features recipes for things I’ve never heard of including –

Prune and Cheese Salad

Cheese Corn-meal Souffle

Cheese Pancakes

The author, Marye Dahnke – Director of Customer Service Department for Kraft Foods, also goes on to share numerous recipes that include cheese with Rum, white wine, sherry and other intriguing ingredients like gelatin.

It’s fun to look back to the 50s rather than living in them!
